Overview

The Gas Heater Discount for Concession Card Holders provides a $700 discount to eligible Victorian households that replace an electric heater with an approved gas space heater. The discount is only available at point of sale through participating gas heater retailers.

Using an efficient gas heater will help you reduce your electricity bills.

Households purchasing a new gas heater may be eligible for additional financial assistance through the Victorian Energy Saver Incentive.

Key eligibility

To be eligible for the Gas Heater Discount, you must:

• hold a Pension Concession Card, a Health Care Card, a DVA Pensioner Concession Card, a DVA Gold Card (except those specifying Dependent or Specific), a DVA Gold Card Specifying War Widow or a DVA Gold Card specifying TPI
• be replacing an electric heater with a new eligible gas space heater which is flued and has an energy star rating of 4 or higher
• live in a dwelling that is more than 1 year old
• have an electricity bill for the dwelling that verifies you as the concession card holder and the person named on the electricity account.

Homeowners, renters, landlords, residents of retirement homes and caravan parks may be eligible for the discount.

Items covered

All types of electric heaters may be replaced under this scheme including:

• portable heaters
• panel and wall mounted heaters
• reverse cycle air conditioners
• heat banks
• slab heating.
