Overview

The Central Australia Waterwise Rebate Scheme provides Alice Springs and Tennant Creek households with rebates to make their homes more water efficient.

Rebates of up to $900 are available for water saving products and rebates of up to $600 are available for plumbing services.

Rebates are only available for existing homes.

Key eligibility

To be eligible for a rebate you must:

• be a resident or own or manage a property in Alice Springs or Tennant Creek
• use an approved Waterwise plumber to qualify for a Waterwise Plumbing Rebate, Rainwater Tank Rebate or a Toilet (Product) Rebate.

Renters must also:

• have written permission from the property owner before claiming a Waterwise Plumbing Rebate, Rainwater Tank Rebate or Product Rebate – noting that permission is not required if purchasing a front-loading washing machine through the Product Rebate.

A number of other conditions apply. Check your eligibility on the Northern Territory Government’s Natural Resources, Environment, the Arts and Sport website.

Items covered

You can only claim one rebate from each category in each financial year.

There are three types of Waterwise rebates:

1. Product Rebates
   • The Small Product Rebate of $50 can be used for the purchase of a low-flow (3-star WELS rating) showerhead.
   • The Large Product Rebate of $250 can be used for the purchase of:
     • front loading washing machines with a 4.5-star or higher Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) rating
     • swimming pool covers endorsed with a Smart Approved WaterMark
   • The Toilet (Product) Rebate of $200 can be used for the purchase of a 4-star or higher dual-flush toilet suite.
2. Plumbing Rebates
   • The Household Plumbing Rebate of $100 is available for:
     • fixing leaking taps and toilets
     • installing flow regulators or aerators on bathroom or kitchen taps
     • installing a low-flow (3-star or higher WELS rating) showerhead
   • The Toilet (Retrofit) Rebate of up to $200 is available for installing a WELS rated 4-star (4.5/3 litre) or higher dual-flush toilet suite.
   • The Connection (Rainwater Tank) Rebate of up to $400 is available to plumb a new or existing rainwater tank to selected water outlets.
3. Rainwater Tank Rebates
   • The Rainwater Tank Rebate of up to $900 is available for tanks with a capacity greater than 2000 litres.
   • The Guttering Rebate of up to $600 is available for the purchase and installation of new guttering more than 5 metres in length. The new guttering must be connected to a rainwater tank that was purchased in the previous 30 days.
