Overview

Northern Territory households may be eligible for a Solar Hot Water Retrofit Rebate of up to $1,000 to help with the costs of installing a solar hot water system. The rebate is designed to help you with the installation costs when replacing your electric hot water system with a solar hot water system.

Key eligibility

To qualify for this rebate, you must:

• be living in a home built in or before the year 2000
• be replacing an electric storage hot water system
• install a new solar hot water system that generates 20 or more small-scale technology certificates at the time and place of installation and includes a 'one-shot' booster switch
• purchase and install your system on, or after, 28 June 2009 and have it fully operational and certified by the licensed installer
• use an appropriately licensed and qualified electrician or plumber who will certify that your roof structure has been modified to bring it to compliance with the relevant NT Building Act requirements.

Home owners and renters can apply for the rebate. If you're renting, written approval from the owner of the home is required.

The Solar Hot Water Retrofit Rebate is designed to help you with the cost of plumbing or roof structure modifications required to install your new solar hot water system.

The rebate amount available varies depending on your roof type:

• Timber-trussed roofs - up to $1,000 to assist with plumbing and roof reinforcements required to install your new solar hot water system.
• Steel-trussed homes - up to $400 to assist with the plumbing costs when you install your new solar hot water system.

You might be able to save even more with the Australian Government's Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs).
