Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme - solar hot water

Overview

Households across Australia that replace an existing electric storage hot water system with a solar hot water or heat pump system can apply for a rebate under the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme – solar hot water rebate. This replaces the Solar Hot Water Rebate which ended on 19 February 2010.

If you replace your old electric storage hot water system with a solar hot water heater you may be eligible for a rebate of $1,000 or $600 for a heat pump system.

Key eligibility

To be eligible for a rebate, you must:

  • replace an existing electric storage hot water system
  • not have previously received assistance from the Home (or Home Owner) Insulation Program
  • install the system at a principal place of residence
  • submit your application within 2 months (62 days) of installing your new hot water or heat pump system.

Home owners, renters and landlords are eligible for the rebate.
