Overview

The Wood Heater Replacement Program can help ACT residents replace old solid fuel heaters or open fireplaces with a new mains-supplied gas heater.

The program helps you reduce air pollution with a subsidy of $800 for ducted gas installations or $600 for flued gas installations.

All claims must be lodged with the Environment Protection & Water Regulation Directorate by 31 December 2012.

Key eligibility

To be eligible for this subsidy, you must:

  • be an ACT ratepayer and the property must be zoned as ‘residential’
  • be replacing a solid fuel heater or an open fireplace with a new mains-supplied gas heater
  • be replacing a heater that is the main source of heating and located in the main living area of your home
  • only apply for one subsidy per property (owners of rental properties may also apply)
  • not have replaced, or be in the process of replacing your heater or fireplace before submitting an application
  • have an Environment Protection officer visit your home to determine your eligibility to take part in the program.

Homeowners and landlords are eligible for this program. Owners of rental properties may apply provided the tenant and the property owner agree and both sign the application form.

Items covered

The Wood Heater Replacement Program provides:

  • $800 for an approved mains-supplied ducted gas heating system
  • $600 for an approved mains-supplied flued gas heater.
