For: Home owners; Renters; Landlords [House]
Overview
The Rainwater Tank Rebate provides ACT households with a rebate of up to $1,000 to purchase and install a water tank, or up to $600 to connect an existing tank to internal plumbing.
An internal plumbing connection will usually connect your tank to a toilet or a washing machine inside your home. This internal connection lets you use your tank water to replace some mains water all year round and helps you reduce the amount of tap water you use.
Key eligibility
To qualify for this rebate, you must:
- install your water tank and plumbing connection on or after 1 February 2008
- be connected to ACTEW Corporations water supply network.
Homeowners, landlords and renters are eligible to apply for the rebates. If you are renting, you'll usually need your landlord's permission before installing and connecting a tank to the internal plumbing.
Rainwater tanks that are installed to satisfy a leasing or development code or other zoning requirements will not be eligible for this rebate.
A number of other conditions apply. Check your eligibility on the ACT Government's ACTSmart website.
Items covered
The Rebates cover water tanks with an internal connection or the internal plumbing connection for existing tanks.
For tanks with an internal connection, the amount you can claim depends on the combined storage capacity of your tank or tanks:
- 2,000 - 3,999 litres - $750 rebate
- 4,000 - 8,999 litres - $900 rebate
- 9,000 litres or greater - $1,000 rebate.
The Internal Connection Rebate for connecting an existing tank to your internal plumbing is up to $600.
