Efficiency in the Workplace
I'm a small business owner and am finding rising power prices very hard to deal with.
After reading a Clean Energy Future handout that I received in the mail, I have started on the path to energy efficiency.
's story
It's not so hard to do - bring down power costs in the workplace.
We are trying hard to make a difference but it can be hard to find ways that are a positive change to our business and work methods. We have started by changing out a lot of our fluro lights for LEDs and limiting our consumption of hot water in the lunch room.
All employees understand our goals to be more energy efficient and we are educating ourselves all the time in this area.
Now I feel some of them are starting to bring their lower power usage into their own homes to save.
's recommendations
My one tip in this area is to run a simple experiment that you only have to do once.
Get into the office early one morning long before the general buzz of business starts (and preferably before it the sun comes up), and take a general look around.
See those lights on displays, the printers on idle, the mobile phone chargers with a warming glow and maybe the unused microwave sitting there with the clock proudly beaming away, all of these items are costing money to run even without staff in the building.
