Saving tonnes of perfectly good fertiliser from going to landfill

I came across this site while researching government action across a range of environmental issues.

Shane Genziuk's story

Started collecting used coffee grounds from cafes and offices, to use in my garden.

This is a centuries old practice and there is huge opportunity for us to make a dent in what goes to landfill and at the same time improve the quality our soils for food production.

I stopped counting how much I collected after 5 tonnes, and there are no piles of coffee grounds to be seen here, it just returns to soil very quickly.

Other members of our group have collected similar amounts.

Shane Genziuk's recommendations

There is a lot of material available online that is a huge help for people starting out, and I would suggest doing some research before getting out there and giving it a go.

Would using all that coffee in compost make it very acidic?
